2002 Chevy Tahoe Install @ The Seat Shop 4/26/2012

Here’s the deal…Today, at The Seat Shop, we installed new driver’s side replacement leather seat covers in a 2002 Chevy Tahoe. We replaced the top and bottom pieces, as well as a new arm rest cover. This Tahoe had the Shale “tan” leather interior with the factory 522 trim code. Along with the new covers, the customer smartly decided to replace the driver’s bottom foam cushion. As you will see in the “before” picture below, the foam was in very bad shape and needed replaced so that the new leather seat cover will wear properly. Had she not replaced the foam cushion, the new cover would have worn out in no time at all. 2004 Ford F150 Driver and Passenger Bottom Install 4/19/2012

Here’s the deal…Today we installed new driver and passenger leather seat cover bottoms on a 2004 Ford F150 Lariat. The interior color was Light Parchment “tan.” This color is very light, and tends to get extremely dirty over the years. After a bit of cleaning and conditioning the original factory seat tops, we were able to get a perfect color match with the new bottom leather seat covers. This last picture was taken while we were cleaning the seat top. You can see the extreme difference in the color and shine of the leather between the uncleaned and cleaned section. If you want to achieve a perfect color match when replacing just one part of the seat (i.e. bottom, top, armrest), you will need to clean the original leather. Here’s the deal…This video from The Seat Shop will show you how to remove the seat heater from the original leather seat cover in a 95-99 Chevy/GMC Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, and the 95-99 Chevy/GMC Silverado and Sierra. Since it is incorporated in the OEM seat cover, you will have to cut it out, and transfer it to the foam cushion. This way it will heat with the new leather seat cover. Here’s the deal…Tomorrow morning (Wed. March 28) we will be filming a new 1995-1999 Chevy/GMC driver bottom leather seat cover installation video. Along with the bottom install, we will also be filming a separate clip showing you how to cut the heater out of your old cover, and transfer it to the foam cushion so that the seat heaters will work with the new cover (if you have the heated seat option). 2000-2006 Chevy/GMC Manual Lumbar Knob Help

Here’s the deal…If you have the manual lumbar system in your 2000 – 2006 Chevy/GMC SUV, you may have problems with disconnecting it. In our install videos, we used a powered seat that doesn’t have this manual system. The other day, during an install at The Seat Shop, we decided to film a quick explanation on how to disconnect the cable system and remove the lumbar knob. March 8, 2012 Install at The Seat Shop

Here’s the deal…This is an install we did here at the shop last week. A customer brought in his 1999 Ford Expedition XLT and had us replace the driver and passenger bottoms, tops, and arm rests. The color was Medium Graphite (Grey), and these covers happened to have the perforated inserts. Ford made the Expedition XLT’s available with either perforated inserts or solid inserts, so pay attention to this option if you would like to order covers for this vehicle. Here are a few before and after pictures. (Note: The before picture was taken inside under fluorescent lights, so the color of the leather appears different from the after pictures that were taken outside in the truck.) Colors are not always what they appear to be

Here’s the deal…When you are looking at leather replacement seat covers online, don’t always trust the exact color you see on the monitor. The color can and will appear drastically different on every monitor. This is due to the many different manufacturers, models, and color settings of the monitor. These monitor variances make it virtually impossible to match the color of a pictured seat cover to exactly how it appears in real life. The picture below shows what I mean.

I took this picture of a seat cover while it was “straddled” in between 2 monitors. As you can see, the color of the leather appears very different on each monitor, making it difficult to interpret the “real life” color of the leather. Also, when picturing the covers, the light and shadowing plays a major role in how the camera captures the color. Leather color will vary under every different light and/or shadow We guarantee the new leather cover will match with the original factory color pallet, once the existing leather is cleaned. So don’t be alarmed if the color on the monitor doesn’t exactly match your interior.

March 1, 2012 Install at The Seat Shop

Here’s the deal…Here are some before and after pictures of the leather seat cover install we did at The Seat Shop on Thursday, March 1, 2012. We replaced the Driver Bottom leather seat cover on a customers 2002 Chevy Tahoe. This Tahoe had the factory Shale leather interior color. The seat top, headrest, and armrest were not replaced. They are the original factory pieces that we just cleaned using The Seat Shop’s cleaning method (shown here). This seat was extremely dirty. After we cleaned a few panels, we took a picture just to show how dirty the leather covers can really get. Cleaning the seats will take off the “shine” that accumulates on the seat covers over time from dirt, oils on your skin, etc. The new leather seat cover will not have this shine, so make sure you scrub the seat to get a perfect color match out of the new cover. (Notice the difference in color and “shine” between the cleaned and uncleaned individual leather panels in picture #2). We also replaced the driver bottom foam cushion with a new OEM one. The density of the new foam cushion will help the new leather cover last a whole lot longer, as well as increase the comfort level for the driver. Use a steamer to help breathe new life into your foam

Here’s the deal…When we are doing an install here at the shop, we use a steamer to help expand the smashed down foam. When auto manufacturers assemble their new seats, they run them through a steam room, and then through an oven. This helps expand the foam cushions, and then shrinks the leather covers to fit tightly around the foam cushions. Steamers are cheap, and most people have one around their house for steaming garments. Check out this video to see how we do this!
